I’m still new to this whole food blogging thing; but I’ve learned that in order to have a good food blog, you need pretty pictures. While it isn’t necessary to be a professional photographer in order to run a food blog, you will get more traffic if your images grab people’s attention. Therefore, an integral part of food blogging is photography, and an integral part of photography is…props!
Where should you get said props? My store of choice happens to be the thrift store. Any thrift store. Here’s what I picked up for $5 on a run to the thrift store in my town this week.
(Photos are SOOC-straight out of camera, no editing. I try to keep these Favorites Friday posts a little more casual than my others.)
First, here are some photography backgrounds (i.e. scrapbooking paper) I picked up at Hobby Lobby the other day (not included in the $5 total listed above).
Next we have some cookie cutters and an old beat-up metal strainer:
Now some strange knives that look a little tacky now that I think about it…oh well, I’ll find a use for them somewhere down the line…
Here’s one of my favorite finds: a little spoon with a penguin handle. Displayed in a sundae dish that I also bought.
And another of my favorite finds-an old silver ladle. Displayed in a random shallow white bowl I bought.
Do you have any favorite thrift store finds? What do you usually look for?

i too was in the thrift store this week. I got some fine english china teacups and saucers (trying to wean myself off too much coffee by making tea seem an appealing ritual involving much prettyness) a lovely english china serving plate that i could serve some delicious briana thomas creations on!, and a white vase to put some springtime flowers in – yes its mid spring here in New Zealand! this was fun 😉
Briana Thomas says
Oh, that sounds lovely!

Do you do Christmas trees? I saw the idea of hanging cookies cutters from your tree. I’m trying to do different things than baubels on my tree this year, the first time I’ve ever decorated our house in three years of married Christmases because everyone is coming here this year for one reason or another instead of us being away. Op shops are my favourites for props too

No, we choose not to have a Christmas tree, but that sounds like a cute idea. 🙂
