God blessed me in a very unexpected way through a good friend of mine this week, and in typical God fashion, He did it on the day that I needed it most. This friend has many health issues and food sensitivities, and she’s been following the Trim Healthy Mama way of eating for the past several months while trying to find answers for a lot of her health problems. Unfortunately, she recently learned that a lot of the ingredients commonly used in THM recipes are hindering rather than helping her condition, so she is currently following a doctor-prescribed, very restrictive diet. When my friend found out that she could no longer use a lot of the ingredients she had bought, she packed them up in a big box and shipped them to me. Peanut flour, oat fiber, coconut flour, extracts of all sorts…the box was full of so many things that I use frequently (and in large quantities) when testing recipes. This gift was such a blessing, but as some of you may have experienced before, accepting gifts can be hard.
It was hard for me. That’s when God reminded me of a couple of things.
- In friendship, giving never stops. Giving gifts to a friend is not a tit-for-tat exercise (“You gave me something so now I have to give you something.”). No! In friendship, both parties give over and over again!
- Gifts keep giving. I can use this gift from my friend to give to others, both by using these ingredients to create more recipes for people and maybe even by giving some of them away!
That last point reminded me of salvation, God’s greatest gift to me. God’s gift to me should be passed on to others and should inspire me to give to everyone around me. As I thought about giving, I was reminded of these verses from Exodus 12 detailing God’s instructions to the Jews for the Passover:
3Â Speak ye unto all the congregation of Israel, saying, In the tenth day of this month they shall take to them every man a lamb, according to the house of their fathers, a lamb for an house:
4Â And if the household be too little for the lamb, let him and his neighbour next unto his house take it according to the number of the souls; every man according to his eating shall make your count for the lamb.
At first glance, this may not seem to have anything to do with anything, but it really does – just give me a minute to explain.
Each household was to kill a lamb for Passover, but none of the lamb was to be wasted. If one household couldn’t eat a whole lamb, they were to share with a neighboring household. Jesus is our perfect Lamb. Is Jesus enough for your household? Is He more than enough? Definitely! We are to share Jesus with those around us because He is more than enough for our needs.
Just as I am called to use this gift from my friend to share with others, we are all called to share the perfect Lamb, God’s gift to us, with the world around us. Live like He is more than enough!
On a side note, please pray for my friend as she follows the restrictive diet prescribed by her doctor in an effort to heal her body. Thank you!
