“It’s the most wonderful time of the year!”
Christmas is my favorite holiday. By far. It carries such depth of meaning (even if it’s celebrated at the wrong time of year), and it’s full of tradition…something that this sentimentalist thrives on. In our house, it is a crime to put out Christmas decorations before Thanksgiving. Therefore, I’m appalled when I see stores carrying Christmas stuff in OCTOBER! The nerve. In our family, Christmas music is also supposed to wait until after Thanksgiving, but I fudged that rule this year. I just couldn’t wait. I mean, I do have OCD (Obsessive Christmas Disorder) after all.
Black Friday will see me not out shopping with the frenzied masses (what is this world coming to…?) but at home, lovingly arranging my Christmas house collection to the sweet strains of Andre Rieu.
If you need something to listen to this Christmas season, might I offer some suggestions? (Disclaimer: Just because an artist’s holiday CD is in this list doesn’t mean that I endorse the rest of his or her music.)
Andre Rieu: Home for the Holidays…this has become one of my all-time favorite Christmas CDs. My favorite song? “Old Toy Trains”.
Jackie Evancho: Heavenly Christmas
Carpenters: A Christmas Portrait…I grew up listening to the tape version of this and was thrilled when we found a re-mastered CD version a couple years ago. Karen Carpenter singing “Ave Maria” = perfection.
Faryl Smith: Wonderland…I actually listen to this CD all year round because it has a lot of non-Christmas music on it. It’s one of those rare finds where half the songs are some of my favorite songs ever-all on one CD!
Bing Crosby: Christmas Classics…Bing Crosby is a Christmas classic.
Aled Jones: Christmas Gift…Aled is one of my favorite singers, and this CD does not disappoint. He truly has a golden voice. My favorite song on this CD is probably “Silver Bells”.
I have other favorite Christmas music too, but these are some favorites. What music gets you in a festive mood? Comment below and let me know!
In the spirit of Christmas, here’s a picture of my mom and me last Christmas, freezing on an island in New Jersey. 😛 Don’t worry, we didn’t get stranded-we were just visiting relatives.

Great post Briana! 🙂
I feel the same way about getting ready for Christmas before Thanksgiving is even over. That kinda gets on my nerves! lol 🙂
Here is a Christmas song I like: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=boE2kR7gQKw
