Introducing…
Well, we haven’t decided on a name yet. But it’s a boy!
UPDATE:
Halal’s Flame Prince
“Flame Prince” is a great Southern peach variety that fits his color and also references some local forest fires we experienced while Peaches was in foal.
We’ll call him Prince, which fits his quietly regal bearing. Thank you all so much for your great suggestions!
Yep, we have a new foal! Unfortunately this one was born two weeks ago while I was gone on a choir tour so I couldn’t see him until he was a week old already! He came with no problems, and Peaches, his mama, is doing a great job with him. Even though this is her first baby, she’s handling the experience like an old pro.
Click here to see foal pictures of Smokey, our foal that was born in April.
I think it’s so interesting to observe the differences between this little guy and Smokey, our foal that was born a few months ago. From the beginning, Smokey was a precocious little thing! He knew what he wanted and he wasn’t scared to ask for it – or just plain demand it! The new colt shares Smokey’s confidence, but in a more subdued, genteel fashion. He’s much less in-your-face about life. That being said, he’s very curious and has no problem walking right up to you to check you (or your camera!) out. I think he’s a nice balance. My sister Katelyn prefers horses with more attitude (hmmm…I wonder why…haha), so she and Smokey have developed a unique bond.
This is how you lie down to take a nap. First, look for the perfect spot.
Next, bend both knees.
Nope, this spot isn’t quite right after all.
Let me keep looking.
Found a better spot in Mom’s shadow!
Haha…mama has flies on her face and is shaking them off.
As I said, we haven’t decided on a name for this cute little guy yet. We’d like to incorporate the dame’s name – Peaches – into the foal’s name somehow, especially because of our family history with peaches. (My grandparents truck South Carolina peaches up to Holmes County, OH, every summer, and I’ve worked at their retail stand numerous times so we’re all pretty familiar with peach jargon.) We think that it would be neat to name the new colt after a peach variety, but there are lots to choose from and we want something that fits his personality and coloring. Hashing over options at the dinner table has become a normal activity in our house, but we just can’t agree on the same peach variety! If you have any name suggestions, please comment below!
Little Man is either a bay or a red chocolate. I’m guessing the latter because his mane and tail aren’t black, but we’ll find out for sure when we get him color tested or when his foal coat sheds out next spring, whichever happens first.
This colt is by our stallion Rocky Mountain Man, who is a direct son of one of the Rocky Mountain Horse foundation sires, Sewell’s Sam. He is out of Sweetwater’s Peaches & Crème who is of Buddy Roe and Magnum decent.
Peaches is a little muddy! Sometimes the horses like to roll in the creek to cool off.
S-t-r-e-e-e-t-t-c-h….
Watcha got there? Can I see the picture? Pretty please?
Mmm…salt blocks are good.
I guess we need to teach him not to eat with his elbows on the table…er…hooves on the salt block. 😛

Hi Brianna
My name Allie Prouse I’m from Kelowna BC Canada. I love your new addition!! He’s adorable!! My idea for his name is Carolina Peach Buckeye. Which has the state, where he was born, and part of his sires name. My brothers name was was Harry James, but we used to call him Bucky. He passed away in 1977.
Good luck choosing a name for him! There’s lots of great suggestions!

Would be fun to use the Red Haven Creme some how, and call him Red for short? Many fun names that could come up. Such a pretty color! I really enjoy our messages, when I can get to them. Would love to meet you sometime, just not in that area very often where you sell your peaches. We were hoping to go to that area in Aug. but you will be gone by then. Thanks for everything, and God bless you!

Since he’s out of Rocky Mountain Man, and you want a type of peach, how about Palisade in there somehow? It’s a Western Slope of Colorado style peach so it would fit the Rocky Mountains and the peaches!
You could call him Pal! ^_^

katie says
How about Peaches and Cream?
Gail Ford-Welick says
My first thought was to give him a name which blends with mom. Then I thought his birth is near Independence Day, too. Without drawing all this out, (drum roll) I would name this gorgeous little guy “PEACHES PATRIOT.” I hope you like the name and choose to use it. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to help name him.
Briana Thomas says
That’s a cool suggestion! Thanks, Gail!
Hannah says
Name him Dr. Peaches, after the great event horse! You couldn’t go wrong on that!
Mrs L says
I’m learning lots about horses as I read your posts! I like all pictures here of the Little Man. I don’t much about peaches, but if you suspect his color to be red chocolate, then the name, “Red Haven” came to mind.
Briana Thomas says
That’s a classic for sure!
Pam says
New life is so beautiful, and your little one is no exception. He (and mama) is beautiful! I will think about a name. Also, will you be in Holmes County and if so where are the peaches? We see a place on Rte. 30 that is always selling peaches but assume that is not will you will be. My son and family live in Canton (I’m in Columbus. Would love to meet you if it works out. I love your posts and your recipes!
Briana Thomas says
Hi Pam! Yes, I will be working at The Peach Barn on SR 39 between Berlin and Millersburg from July 11-21. I’m not sure what hours I’ll be working, so if you’re able to stop by it might be a good idea to send me an email through the contact form here on my blog to make sure I’ll be around when you come. I’d love to meet you!
