Description
This Chocolate Dreamy shake is a thick and creamy chocolate shake that reminds me of a cross between a Wendy’s Frosty and those old chocolate SlimFast shakes! It makes a whopping 5 cups to fill you up…or give you a little to share.
I don’t find the okra to be very noticeable in this shake. It should be completely smooth with no discernable okra. A hint of earthiness is all! If the initial flavor surprises you, keep going. I find that I get used to it and don’t notice anything a couple of swigs in.
The half and half is the only dairy in this. Feel free to omit for a dairy free shake, or try this chocolate shake made with frozen cauliflower (already DF) if you like the idea of hidden veggies but don’t enjoy the okra.
This shake is technically a light THM S but would be a Fuel Pull if you omit the half and half. Low carb, sugar free
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups (200g) ice cubes
- 1 cup (120g) frozen chopped okra*
- 1 1/2 cups unsweetened almond milk
- 3 tablespoons collagen
- 2 tablespoons half and half
- 1 1/2 tablespoons cocoa powder
- 1 1/2 tablespoons THM Super Sweet Blend
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder (for flavor)
- Hearty dash salt (don’t skimp – it brings out flavor and this is a large volume shake)
- Hearty dash vanilla
- 1/2 teaspoon xanthan gum
Instructions
Add all the ingredients to a high powdered blender (I love my Vitamix!), adding the xanthan gum last. Blend well, swirling with the blender tamper if you have one, until the shake reaches critical mass and blends freely. It should be very thick and creamy. Taste and adjust the sweetness (or add another pinch of salt to bring out the flavor) and blend again. The shake should be completely smooth with no noticeable okra.
Notes
*Do not thaw or the shake won’t be as nice and thick! Use store-bought frozen okra, or if you freeze your own, blanch it before freezing to help break it down, cut some of the slime, and get rid of some of the earthy taste.
This shake recipe was originally published on Oct 10, 2016. It got a remake in Jan 2026. I changed a few ratios, amped up the flavor, changed the sweetener used, and omitted the cottage cheese as I don’t love it in non-fruity shakes anymore. You can find the original recipe in my second cookbook, Convenient Food.
