Be sure to check out this post about how I switched from Google Blogger to a self-hosted WordPress site and started monetizing my food blog! For some quick summaries of the services I used to get started, check below:
I run a self-hosted WordPress.org blog here, and I use Genesis as my framework (the guts of the blog). It came highly recommended and I have had no complaints so far.
I use the Foodie theme (that would be the basic graphics and design you see) to run my blog. It comes with some neat features that are very helpful to food bloggers (such as a built in Recipe page) and has been pretty easy for me to figure out. I’m not super tech-savvy, so that says a lot.
You can check out other themes through Studiopress. They have hundreds of designs to choose from!
If you’re running a self-hosted blog like I am, you need a blog host. I started out with Bluehost because it was the service recommended by a lot of bloggers I respected. Bluehost served me well for two years, but then its customer service started going downhill and its hosting was inconsistent. I decided to switch to LiquidWeb because of the great reviews I had heard on it from various blogging people I knew. Un-techy me got stuck in the middle of the switching process, and I felt like I had to drag information out of every tech support person I talked to, so I abandoned the LiquidWeb effort. I am currently still with Bluehost, but I’ve found a tech person who is willing to work with me and manage my blog hosting personally so I’ll be switching to his services within the next few weeks! I’m super excited about that!
