Six of us from church (5 youth + 1 random 40 year old guy…haha, Bryan…) have been doing some singing together, and we gave a 10-song program at our church last Sunday night. I’m kind of the closest thing to a director that we had, and my sister got some interesting videos of our last practice session together. 😛 I thought some of you might be interested in seeing a video compilation of some of our rehearsal and program. I hope to re-record and post a few more of the songs we sang here in the next few weeks. Watching the videos from the program showed me that our parts balance was a little off, so I’m hoping to make some adjustments to that and get better recordings of a few of the songs for posterity.
The whole point of this singing venture was just to have fun singing together with my friends and give glory to God. I think we did both of those, and I really enjoyed the experience. Considering the fact that half of our group had no previous choir experience and we only had 6 people in the ensemble, I was happy with how well the program went. I was so proud of all the effort everyone put into practicing and learning! It really was a learning experience for everyone, I think – especially me! I was singing alto because we have no altos in the youth group at present. Alto is not my first love, especially right now while I’m working on Soprano 1/2 pieces for some groups I’m singing with this summer (when I work the high stuff I tend to lose power in my lower range). Singing alto like this really helped me with my low range, though! I’m hoping to get to the point eventually where I can make good use of both the lower and higher extents of my range, but that takes a lot of time and practice. Being the “director” taught me a lot, too. However, it’s a job I will gladly pass on to someone else if we do this again. 😛

It appears some of them may be under the influence of THM? Lol
But it sounds good!
Briana Thomas says
Haha…Stephanie is, and Conner might be by necessity, but I don’t think the rest of them are.

So beautiful!! What songs were those? I love vocal hymns more than any other style of worship music.
Briana Thomas says
Thank you! The first was a South African Spiritual called “Akanamandla”, the second was “Come Holy Spirit”, then “Longing for Light”, “Poor Wayfaring Stranger”, and then the congregation joined us for a verse of “I Serve a Risen Savior”. 🙂

It takes confidence to sing in a smaller group like that! Sounds great.

Thank you, Hannah! It was definitely a good experience.
