The food blogger world gears up for pumpkin recipes as soon as September gets its foot in the door. Which means that we bloggers are testing pumpkin recipes during the summer when sane people are eating ice cream and grilling on the back porch. Because pumpkin starts so early, we are pumpkined out long before Thanksgiving, so that means that Christmas recipes (think peppermint and eggnog) start showing up in November. I guess that’s OK so people can get their grocery lists prepared in advance, but the never-listen-to-Christmas-music-before-Thanksgiving side of me chafes at the way everyone rushes into the seasons before they’ve had time to mature.
But I do admit that I’m ready for pumpkin. Maybe that’s because summer is my least favorite season and I am wishfully thinking that fall really will show up in September. As if I make enough pumpkin spice lattes then cooler weather will automatically come knocking.
Fall or not, this pumpkin spice latte will at least let you pretend that it’s fall. I made it with Gingerbread Spice tea from Celestial Seasonings, but I guess if you’re a coffee drinker you could try it with coffee. The thought of pumpkin and coffee together makes me want to throw up, but I’ve heard that pumpkin and coffee together is a thing, so go for it if that sounds appetizing to you.
Don’t want to buy pumpkin pie spice? Make your own! This link shows you how.
I have lots of other pumpkin recipe ideas that I’m going to be working on this fall, as well as some non-pumpkin autumnal wonders (well, we hope they’ll be wonderful). I’m thinking pie, bars, whoopee pies, oatmeal, syrup, and cheesecake. Which one first?
You can find this recipe in my cookbook, Necessary Food.
