Are you having cranberry orange cravings yet? December is here, so everything you make should be flavored with either peppermint or a combination of cranberry and orange. Or gingerbread. Am I right? Okay, so you definitely don’t have to limit yourselves to those flavors (although there’s something fun about getting caught up in the holiday flavor crazes), but they’re on my brain right now, especially all things Cranberry Orange. So much so that this week is going to be Cranberry Orange Spirit Week here on my blog! Today you’re getting a smoothie, then will come chocolate clusters, overnight oatmeal, and muffins! To make sure you don’t miss any of these awesome recipes, make sure you subscribe to my blog via email (in the sidebar to your right, or maybe at the bottom of the page if you’re on mobile). I’ll also be sharing various cran-orange recipes from the blogosphere on my Facebook page this week, which you can find and follow here.
So for the first recipe of the week, I give you a smoothie that has a ton of flavor and no special ingredients (excluding your favorite sweetener, which I don’t consider a special ingredient because nowadays you can find something workable at Walmart)! It doesn’t contain any protein powder, but it does have ten grams of protein! Cottage cheese is the miracle ingredient here. If you’ve been exposed to cottage cheese as an excellent creamifier/protein source in shakes and smoothies before, kudos to you! If not, don’t tune me out until you try it. You cannot taste the cottage cheese.
This shake is a Fuel Pull for Trim Healthy Mamas, which also means that it’s both low carb and low fat. This makes a great light afternoon snack or dessert (it can go with any meal type!), but it also makes a great E breakfast when paired with two slices of my homemade cranberry toast and a teaspoon of butter!

You can find this recipe in my cookbook, Necessary Food.

- ½ cup low fat cottage cheese
- ½ cup frozen strawberry slices
- ⅓ cup frozen cranberries
- ½ cup unsweetened almond milk (or carton coconut milk for a nut free option)
- Dash of orange extract
- 3 doonks THM Pure Stevia Extract Powder (a doonk is 1/32 tsp.)
- Blend all ingredients together until smooth. Enjoy!
Suggested products:
- Ninja blender
- THM Pure Stevia Extract Powder can be purchased from the Trim Healthy Mama online store.
- Orange Extract
What would be your suggestion to replace the strawberries with? (Im allergic)
I’d try more cranberries or raspberries.
Soooo yummy! I make it several times a week for lunch. I am nursing so I like to add a little heavy cream, a little ice, a little protein powder, and a little extra almond milk to make it a nice full S meal. So delicious!
Absolutely delicious!
My girls wanted me to try this smoothie. It was delicious! All three of us enjoyed it. Unfortunately, I don’t have cottage cheese, at the moment, but I had plain 0% Greek yogurt, so I used that. Would that still be FP? I figured worst case, it would be E, and I had E breakfast, so I wasn’t too worried.
Still a fuel pull! I’m glad you liked it!
I’ve made this smoothie three times. It definitely hits the spot! I also like it with a slight variation: half the cottage cheese and a half scoop of whey protein powder. I usually have to add more almond milk to make it drinkable through a straw.
Thanks for sharing your tweak! Glad you like it!
So so yummy! I make this often, and it’s also a great berry whip without the almond milk!
Just made this smoothie and added Baobab to the mixture. It was very tasty felt like I ordered it from Jamba Juice
Awesome Briana! God has truly blessed you, and us!!!
Where do you purchase frozen cranberries?
Aldi carries them fresh for a great price during the holiday season, so we stock up and freeze them for later. 🙂
Brianna, I love this shake! It has become my go to favorite. Thank you for your wonderful recipes. They has been a Godsend as I transition to a different style of eating! 🙂
This is my new favorite smoothie. I make it alll the time!! It’s soo good!
Normally, I’m way too chilly to have cold drinks in the winter, but given our warm December weather here in PA, I made this today, and WOW! It’s thick, creamy and delicious-the whole family loved it.
Delicious !! I also made it like the cottage whip recipe. It was delicious as well !! Thanks for the great recipes !!
Ive been so caught up in christmassy flavors like gingerbread and peppermint that I have forgotten about the lovely combo of cranberry and orange!! Thanks for reminding me with this fantastic smoothie recipe!
