I’m 17 (for two more weeks), and I’ve never had a lot of problems with weight, although I’ve always carried ten or so extra pounds. Being on the top end of average height (5’6″) helps. However, this summer I was working a summer job out of state and started eating more junk food than normal; I’ve always been a pretty healthy eater and pretty much all our meals are home-cooked. I thought I was working hard enough to burn off the potato chips and Combos I was eating, but I didn’t have a scales with me and had no way of knowing that the weight was creeping on-until my dresses started getting tight. When I got home after completing my time on the job, I resolved to do something about the weight I had just gained, as well as the couple extra pounds that had been accumulating over several years’ time. My mother had just started Trim Healthy Mama, and I joined in.
The science of the plan really seems to make sense, and I certainly feel a lot better (less bloated) for cutting out all the breads and sweets. Even if it didn’t help me lose weight, I would still follow it, at least in some form, for the health benefits. I’ve never had a huge problem with acne, but what problem I did have is now gone. Except when I cheat. When I cheat, it’s literally “written all over my face.” I am now convinced that sugar is the cause of acne.
I started THM sometime around August, and so far I’ve lost around 12 pounds. I know I’ve lost a lot of inches through weight loss and exercise, but unfortunately I never took any measurements before starting. My goal weight is 135 pounds. The first 6-8 pounds came off pretty easily, but I’m having to work harder for the last 10. Exercise is a key for me, and I’ve been doing more intense exercise than I ever have (and am thus in better shape than I’ve ever been). My goal is to be at goal weight by Christmas.
Some of my favorite go-to meals/snacks/desserts are the following:
-oatmeal with cottage cheese and frozen strawberries
-Cottage Berry Whip
-apple crisp
-Speedy Crust pizza
-cabbage sautéed in butter (with a protein source, of course)
-Cake in a Mug
-Secret Agent Brownies with a cream cheese layer
-Peanut Butter Skinny Chocolate
-Gwen’s bread (toasted with blackberry Slim Belly Jelly)
I love to cook and bake, so maybe I’ll share some of my favorite recipes and tweaks in future posts.
Happy THMing to you all!

A month ago I read somewhere on your blog how to do a glucose cleanse. But now I can’t find it… could you help me out with where to locate it? Thanks so much!
Hi Miriam! I’m afraid you might be confusing me with someone else. I’ve never done a glucose cleanse…in fact, I’m not entirely sure what you’re talking about. Sorry!
