First published 3/8/14. Recipe and pictures updated 11/3/15. I changed the name to “Strawberry Cheesecake Whiteout” on 12.6.16, but the recipe is the same as before.
This is a replica of one of my other favorite DQ Blizzards: the Strawberry Cheesequake. (Click here to see my healthy version of the Chocolate Xtreme Blizzard.)
This delightful concoction includes chunks of strawberries, cheesecake…and cheesecake crust. Short of making a cheesecake, I didn’t know how to replicate the cheesecake crust.
But then I had an idea.
How about toasted coconut?
Â
You can find this recipe in my cookbook, Necessary Food.

- 2 T unsweetened shredded coconut
- ½ tsp. butter
- 1 cup crushed ice
- ¼ cup unsweetened almond milk (or carton coconut milk for a nut free option)
- ⅓ cup cottage cheese
- 3 doonks THM Pure Stevia Extract Powder (a doonk is 1/32 tsp.)
- Rounded ¼ tsp. glucomannan
- Scant ¼ tsp. cream of tartar
- ¼ tsp. butter flavoring
- ¼ tsp. vanilla extract
- ½-1 scoop vanilla whey protein powder
- ⅓ cup frozen strawberries
- 1-1½ oz. reduced-fat cream cheese
- In a small frying pan, toast the unsweetened shredded coconut in ½ tsp. of butter. Set aside. You can also place the coconut flakes on a baking sheet, spray with a cooking spray, and broil until lightly toasted.
- In a blender, combine all other ingredients except for the strawberries and cream cheese.
- Add the strawberries but only pulse briefly so some chunks are left.
- Cut the cream cheese into chunks and swirl it and the toasted coconut into the shake by hand. Enjoy!

Thank you for this awesome recipe! I’m having it for breakfast! I haven’t come across one recipe I didn’t like! Thank you for helping us out with THM!
What’s the cream of tartar for? Does it change the taste? Texture?
It helps with the cheesecake flavor. 🙂
I needed something relatively quick for lunch today and have been wanting ice-cream lately. This is really hitting the spot! Thank you for the time and effort you put into creating so many on plan goodies!
I have been struggling with the idea of eating the THM way for the rest. of. my. life… But after eating this for lunch today, I realized this is totally doable. I might not be able to eat my favorite foods exactly, but I can still find foods that give you that satisfied feeling. This was so amazing. Printed the recipe because I need to have this information on hand all the time!!
You have the right perspective! As you stay on plan, you will crave those old foods less and less!
Wait, you mean it’s plain, unsweetened chunks of cream cheese, not cheesecake chunks?
Correct, unless, as I said, you have leftover cheesecake on hand. I don’t really think it’s realistic to make a cheesecake just for the purpose of chunking it up into this shake. 😛 Although you’re welcome to do that if you like. I have several cheesecake recipes on my site if you’d like to explore that route, including a recipe that makes 2 mini cheesecakes.
Delicious! Toasted coconut, peanut flour and butter make a great mach crust for something like this. I love your recipes, you’re a gem!
This will always be one of my favorite shake recipes. 🙂
You and your blog are now my new favorite person! I just discovered your blog and all the amazing food that’s THM. I’ve been struggling to come up with good dishes and desserts on plan and your talent is an answer to prayer! Thanks so much for sharing your hard work.
Thank you so much; I’m glad you enjoy it.
YUM! I made this for snack today and it was delicious! We have a DQ just down the road from my family and I have been hankering for a blizzard for a couple weeks. I was lazy and didn’t toast the coconut, but it still tasted amazing and completely satisfied my sweet tooth. Maybe I can hold myself back now! 🙂 Thanks for creating this recipe!
Thanks so much for letting me know how it turned out! 🙂 I can totally relate with the DQ cravings.
